'Fair' weather draws big crowds Hundreds view show by country singers Twitty Fever

Daniel Bonner wasn't clowning around at all when he talked about this year's edition of the Carbon County Fair.

Bonner, of Palmer Township, who is a professional clown known as Dapper Dan, remarked, “This is no longer a small fair. I was here last year and this year there are twice as many people. It's been wall-to-wall people. I think the fair is pretty big. It's growing.”

Few would dispute Bonner's assessment. Yesterday, the second day of the five-day event, a large crowd was on hand. The fair is located along the Little Gap Highway, about three miles east of Palmerton.

“Yes, it looks like another excellent turnout,” commented Duane Dellecker, who is the fair's vice president. It was the second day of great attendance. The fair continues through Sunday and if the turnout continues as strong as it's been, it could be a record year.

Last night, fair-goers listened to the country music of the Twitty Fever band. Hundreds of people took in the two performances of Twitty Fever, led by Dustin Rehrig. A highlight of each concert is a series of Conway Twitty songs performed by Rehrig's father, Dave Rehrig.

Dave sang such Conway staples as “Tight Fitting Jeans,” “Linda On My Mind,” and “Hello, Darlin'.”

Also during the show, he and his granddaughter, April Rehrig, sang the song “God Bless America, Again.” The crowd stood during the singing of this patriotic selection.

Dustin's selections included the late Eddie Rabbitt's “Love A Rainy Night,” Blake Shelton's “Some Beach,” and “USA Today,” a song from the band's 2005 CD.

The second show saw Twitty Fever do some rock n' roll, while Dave sang Twitty's hits from the early 50s, before he turned country.

As the band was playing, a paraglider sailed over the bandstand area several times.
